Kati Kallio is Finnish dance artist, filmmaker, curator, dance film educator.

Kati Kallio is an award winning dance filmmaker from Finland. Kallio lives in Helsinki and works internationally as an artist, curator and teaches dance film making. Her films have been screened internationally in film, dance and dance film festivals as well as broadcasted on television.

Kati Kallio became interested in the film format in 2008, and co-founded the Loikka Dance Film Festival with her colleagues, where her debut film ‘Breath’ premiered the same year. At the Loikka festival, she served as the festival coordinator, audience developer, curator and, in 2015-2018 as the artistic director of the festival. During these years, Kallio has been responsible for promoting Finnish dance films and contributing to its strong rise. She is an undeniable expert in dance film, who teaches and mentors dance filmmakers in a course-based way in cooperation with various parties, such as UniArts Helsinki Open University and Riveria Vocational Education and Training Centre.

Kati Kallio has made short films in collaboration with various dance artists and dance groups. Since 2010, she has collaborated in the development of an inclusive Finnish dance film with Myrskyryhmä and especially Elli Isokoski. Eight short dance films have been completed in collaboration, designed and executed with the participation of the elderly. Since 2016, Kallio has been inviting dance artists to collaborate on his Searching for Flow film series. By 2023, seven films from the Flow project have been completed in Finland, Iceland, Russia and Nicaragua.

Prior to her dance film career, Kati Kallio worked as a freelance dance artist, dancer, choreographer, producer and dance teacher. She has held positions of trust in several dance art associations and has extensive experience working in the association. She graduated from the Department of Dance at the Theater Academy as a dancer in 2003 and studied in its master's program in 1991-1995.
